Most of you will already be on the lake but if you are looking to keep the party going, the Rusty Rudder will have Simplified playing starting at 3pm.  If you haven’t heard of this band, they are one of the  most popular local bands of the Southeast!

With raucous guitar riffs, velvety vocals and hook-laden melodies, Simplified has been hailed as one of music’s most interesting and, ironically, most complex bands on the circuit today. Fusing elements of reggae, funk, and calypso, the rollicking quartet has not only stunned critics… with its intricate songwriting and versatile stage show but also managed to create a sound all its own … a sound that appears to be stimulating the masses.

My husband and I (Kelly) will be there for sure!  We were introduced to them by a friend of ours and fell in love with their sound.  Come check it out if you are around.

Check out their Facebook Fan page at www.facebook.com/simplifiedmusic or their website at www.simplifiedmusic.com

95.11 Ahhh The Sandbar!

The Sandbar on Lake Norman is a top spot for boaters to come hang out, party and relax!  Almost every day during the summer at least a few boats can be found there.  Boats of all sizes and shapes tie up together and create rows and rows of good times!  There is even a floating Tiki Hut that sells food and ice so you never have to leave!  Be sure to bring a noodle or two and lots of buoys because it can get a little rough out there, but overall, its a great time!  Mostly this party is for adults only but occasionally you will find some younger families up on the island or on the quieter side rafting up to enjoy the sight-seeing as well.  It’s great for people watching!!  Hope to see you out there soon.

92.11 Boat Access/Launch & Marinas

When  I first moved down here I moved in with Kelly and we really wanted to be on the lake. We ended up buying 2 used  jet ski’s with a trailor and needed the boat launch to get out on the lake. Many people don’t know that there is only one access point to Lake Norman for swimming if you don’t have a boat or live on the lake. That location is a wonderful State Park called the Lake Norman State Park. It’s located in Troutman and offers so many cool things to do.

There’s a huge beach, bike and hiking trails for all levels of challenges. You can rent a canoe or pedal boat, go camping or even use the big Community building that holds 96 people  for a meeting or whatever. It is complete with a fireplace and kitchen facilities too.  There are  Drive-to family campsites (non-electric). A tent pad, picnic table and grill are available at each site.

There’s two fishing piers, one is near the entrance and another is on a ridge across the cove from the swimming area. All have restrooms, tables and grills.

My dear friends Billy and Bernie love to go hiking on the trails in the summer and another friend Stephanie is crazy about the bike trails. She used to take groups up on the trails for long rides and loved it.

So go check it out and let us hear some of your stories.

86.11 Yachta Yachta Yachta

When I first came to work at RE/MAX at the Lake it all started with an office party on the Yachta Yachta Yachta. We brought food and drinks and took off for a party on the boat. It was lot’s of fun and it we will be heading out soon  for another party next month with our office. Can’t wait!

You’ll be surprised just how affordable hosting your special event on the “Yachta, Yachta, Yachta” can be.  When compared to a meeting room or banquet hall, this yacht offers luxury, comfort and unbeatable scenery for a fraction of the cost.

81.11 Father’s Day Ideas

Happy Father’s Day  and time for those last minute ideas. I’ve come  up with a few things you may want to consider. My father passed years ago and I have many fond memories of family Fathers Days with him.  We used to make breakfast in bed for my dad and all jump on the bed as he marveled at our scrambled eggs and toast. As we got older it was car shows, boat rides and fun times as a family. Here’s a few things I found you can do:

1) Lake Norman Miniature Golf is offer free golf for Dads

2) Northcross Lanes Bowling is offering free bowling for Dads too

3) Fishing with Gus isnt offering any special packages that I saw however if you have a dad whose a fisherman, Gus has some really cool events he puts on that I;m sure your dad would love.

4) Queens Landing  is having two special Fathers Day cruises that should be lots of fun

5) Dirty Boys has a special car detailing package that I found on LKN Savings. My dad always wanted his car looking perfect. This would have been a great gift for him.

For all the dads out there, Kelly and I wish you Happy Fathers Day. Love you Dad

Mooresville welcomes pro riders Cobe Mikacich, Ben Greenwood, Kyle Ratray, Sean O’Brien and Shawn Watson to the competition in Magnolia Bays on Lake Norman (656 Cornelius Road).  All monies raised to benefit Victory Junction Camp.

June 18-19 Competition (WWA sanctioned) – Amateur, open, extremity and pro competition. Pro Wake Series Riders will compete to show who gets to keep bragging rights as to the top rider of the weekend. This should be lots of fun to watch. The grass has all been cut all around there so you can bring your lawn chairs, lots of water and come enjoy the entertainment. There is supposed to be a boat show as well. Let us know what you think.

I have been thinking that the NC Community Sailing and Rowing group in Huntersville has to be so much fun. I went over and volunteered to help build some racks for the long rowing boats that they have there and it was lots of fun. I met Bridget, the director, and several people who not only work there but sail and row there. It is a great place to enjoy the water, learn the craft and get to know some really great people. They are always in need of extra bodies to help develop the center as well. They don’t care if you can only give an hour or so. They are very grateful!  Wait till you see the place. You will love it. They have youth programs for ages 7-18, special needs programs and adult programs  as well.

It’s all located at Blyth Landing Park on Hwy 73. It’s tucked in the far back left corner on 2 acres. You get  a seasonal pass for only $225 (9 months – don’t you love how long the season is here in North Carolina :}) and get unlimited use of fleet equipment. They  have it all.  I signed up for  the newsletter to keep up to date on all the fun things happening. That’s how I knew they needed help building the new boat racks.

Bridget was talking about a morning class for people who want to start to learn that she may be starting up. She says the water is like glass often in the mornings and I know that’s true. It’s one of my favorite times on the lake.

Check out the website, shoot them an email at info@nccsailrow.org or give them a call at 704-947-7245. You’ll be glad you did. Hope to see you out there. Tell us what you think of this cool place.
